Pupil Premium
At Hertford Primary we are all committed to providing an educational experience tailored to, and supportive of the Hertford Child. We are proud to be a school where children come from a diverse community of families and bring unique and valuable experiences from their varying backgrounds.
We are determined that everyone will reach their full potential within a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment where we learn together, take pride in our achievements and respect individuality. All children will be given the knowledge and skills required to be lifelong learners. We recognise that there are similarities and differences between individuals and groups, but we will strive to ensure that our differences do not become a challenge to participation, access, and learning. We create inclusive processes and practices, where the varying needs of individuals and groups are identified and met. We all have equal rights but may have different needs and we recognise that research shows children in receipt of the Pupil Premium Grant are more likely to have some challenges to their learning than other children.
This strategy underpins our aims for whole school improvement and is integral to our School Improvement Plan. It also continues to recognise the impact of COVID 19 on our children, families and community as we continue to tackle the ongoing effects of the pandemic.
How do we provide for our pupils in receipt of the Pupil Premium Grant?
As recommended by the Education Endowment Foundation we use a 3 Tier approach:
1. Our main aim is to ensure that all pupils have what they need in their classrooms every day to develop key learning skills and behaviours, supported by effective feedback to move them on in their learning.
2. Additional interventions are used to support all pupils who are identified as low attainment, not making expected progress and /or have specific additional needs.
3. Pupil premium funding is also used for specific additional support for behaviour, wellbeing and to give our children from disadvantaged backgrounds equal access to enrichment and extra-curricular activities.
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is a grant schools receive to support the needs of pupils who could be at risk of underachievement due to their individual circumstances, in particular with relation to social disadvantage. This is children who are known to be currently eligible for free school meals, or have been eligible for free school meals at any time in the last 6 years, as well as for Looked After Children, those who have been adopted from care or have left care and Service children.
What is Hertford’s Pupil Premium Strategy?
Our Pupil Premium Strategy is a 3 year plan which explains what our intent is when using the funding, the main challenges we believe some children in our schools face and how we are tackling these challenges to ensure we meet our intended outcomes. We are currently in year 1 of our strategy. The document also includes a review of how our strategy went last year. You can read the strategy here:
